Based on a descriptive methodology this paper has given a description for the concept and model of groupthink as one of the major obstacles that face group decision making . Groupthink model consists of three main parts: antecedent's conditions groupthink , symptoms , and defective decision making symptoms . According to (Janis , 1982) , the existence of some antecedents conditions , such as high cohesion among the decision making group , leads to groupthink symptoms , such as the illusion of unanimity , and then to defective decision making symptoms , such as incomplete survey of alternatives of the problem under consideration . In the last part of this paper , I reviewed some case studies that indicated to the existence or the nonexistence of groupthink in various decisions . And finally , this paper has enumerated some suggestions that would help organizations to avoid the syndrome of groupthink during group decision making processes
