This study focuses on the Preferential Trade Area (PTA) between Arab and African countries . The idea of establishing PTA between the Arab and African countries was started on July 1990 , through the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Afro - Arab Cooperation in Abidjan . The draft framework convention for PTA has circulated on the Arab and African Countries to express an opinion and observations about it , but till now the Standing Committee did not receive all the response of states . The study presents the history and foundations of Arab and African Countries Cooperation . Also , the study focuses on the impacts of establishing the PTA through using two measures , the first is the Trade Complementarity Index which is designed to measure compatibility trade profiles between Arab and African Countries , and the other Index is the Trade Intensity Index which used as a uniform export share
