Summary: This book responds to the objectives of the BA Calligraphy Center; to study the history of writings all over the world, particularly in Egypt. The book investigates and documents the history of writings which appeared in Egypt in different periods. It starts with a study of the Predynastic writings, then displays its evolution into Hieroglyphic, Hieratic and Demotic, then Coptic writings. In a later phase, Greek became the official language of Egypt, then the book refers to the appearance of foreign writings such as: Aramaic, Hebrew, Syriac, Meroitic, Tifinagh, until the Arab conquest of Egypt and the dominance of Arabic as the official language of Egypt
