Master Egypt - Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) - School of Electronics , Communication and Competing , Engineering - Electronics and Communication Engineering Department 2016 Summary: Information revolution comes with many applications that require huge trans- mission capacities especially at last-mile networks which represent challenge bottlenock in communication networks Real time interactive applications cloud based applications , and multimedia based applications are some ex-amples that require larger bandwidths Also , current developments in RF communication techniques accelerate the needs for higher transmission ca-pacities. In such cases , free space optical (FSO) networks are presented a promising way to support these higher aggregate bandwidths Furthermore , through the last years , there is a remarkable rising on the demand of provid-ing direct optical connections to end users using FSO networks Currently , more FSO links are deployed in a given service area to meet the users huge demands on Internet services and applications However , the FSO channel is affected by various weather conditions which reflect , absorb , and scatter transmitted optical signals Clearly , all these issues require the researchers in field of wireless optical communications to find more advanced techniques that enhance the quality of service (QoS) of the existing optical networks The implemented FSO network topology has to satisfy the required QoS re-gardless the channels conditions Towards that , FSO network techniques that result in higher immunity against the atmosphere have more concerns than others In this thesis , we address the problem of enhancing network performance , while sustaining the cost of the network in terms of number of FSO transceivers In the first part of this thesis , we aim at enhancing the performance of cooperative dynamic FSO networks and compare the results with recent solution of static networks Towards that , two new resource allocation schemes are proposed as new approaches to improve the performance of cooperative dy-namic FSO networks Several objectives , capacity , reliability , fairness , average transmitted power , and average error-rate are considered in our analysis. The schemes are formulated as multi-objective optimization problems (MOOP) and solved by exhaustive search method (ES)The results reveal that the proposed schemes are more reliable , fair , and cost efficient than traditional
